Renovation

Haddam residents and visitors alike are drawn to the treasured community resource that is the Brainerd Memorial Library. Since 1908, this handsome building has functioned as a community hub, enriching so many lives through education and entertainment.

Renovations in the 1990s doubled the size of the building, and 2021 saw the completion of exterior improvements. Now we’re turning our attention to the interior spaces, which are long overdue for updating. Post-renovation, the building will accommodate more community groups, enhance teen and children’s programming, provide upgraded technology, and offer a fresh, welcoming environment for all users.

The Library has been working with Silver, Petrucelli & Associates (architects, engineers and interior designers). Interior improvements will be completed in phases so the building can remain open throughout. The spatial eficiencies, new furniture and finishes, and energy efficient systems will create bright, responsive spaces that respect the building’s rich history.

We are excited to share our plans for Brainerd Library’s Interior Renewal Project. The project costs are funded in part by a Connecticut State Library grant, and in part by funds from the Town of Haddam, but the grants do not cover the entire cost. To bridge the gap, additional contributions from private donors will be needed. Our hope is that you, who recognize how important good stewardship of the Library is to Haddam’s vitality, will support this project.
